The best weapons and armour in Fiara come from the dark slopes of the Grimwarg Peaks and the snow-covered summits of the Windwall Mountains, items that are highly valued and traded among the races of the light. These amazing wares are forged by the smiths of the dwarves, a race small in height, but of amazing strength and unshakeable courage. Like the elves, the dwarves are an ancient race that survived the reign of the dragons hidden deep in the labyrinth of caverns under the Windwall Mountains. While the giant lizards ruled the air, the dwarves drove the mines and shafts of their stony home deeper and deeper in the rock. There, they found discovered their destiny to work with rock and ore, bonding with the spirits of the earth and the god whose realm is the rock foundation of the world. They became the servants of Bjarne, the Soulsmith and Warrior God, who deep under the surface forges the souls of all living creatures until they become strong and solid. And so it came that the dwarves also became a strong race, a race of builders and blacksmiths, but also of warriors and heroes.
— Official description

The Dwarves are a race of sturdy warriors and masters of the blacksmithing art. They are living in mountaineous areas such as the Windwall Mountains of the Grimwarg Mountains although there are some who prefer to live outside the dwarven cities. However, the vast majority of the dwarves are staying within their cities borders and obey the strict rules given by their patriarchic government.

Virtues of the dwarves[]

Courage and strength are the pillars of their life, and despite being known for a certain greed for gold and other jewelry, they are the only values they truly recognize. And though they may often seem reserved and condescending, they are always ready to help a true friend in need of their aide.

Today the dwarves not only live in the dark shafts under the peaks of Grimwarg, but have created imposing cities of stone where they trade with the other races of the light. There, the hammers of the master smiths ring constantly and merchants loaded with the most valuable of steel and moonsilver travel to all regions of Fiara.

And when it comes to war, the closed ranks of dwarf warriors will march from there with their indestructible armour and feared axes, always ready to support their brothers of the light.  These are coming from Fastholme, which stands under the old mines at the foot of the Grimwarg Mountains, and from Windholme, which is an imposing sight in front of the snow-covered peaks of the Windwall, where it provides cover from the southern storms.

Beliefs[]

The dwarven culture has been strictly hierarchic and patriarchal ever since the race had founded their first settlements on and below the surface of Eo. The noblemen and the ruling elites were deciding the fate of the people while the lower artisans and warriors had to follow. Additionally, the ruling elites were mostly male dwarves as their culture was extremely discriminating towards women.

Additionally to the split between the rich and the poor, between men and women, there is also another separation: The priests and elders serving the gods of the dwarven pantheon were holding a supreme power within their culture. Even if having committed serious crimes, their laws often exclude those elders and they would remain unscathed.

Niethalf and Bjarne[]

While the dwarves are respecting the other guardian gods as gods of light as well, their main devotion is given Niethalf and Bjarne. The god of war, Niethalf, was the main god of the dwarven beliefs as he was representing the dwarven mentality as well. He would support the dwarves and honor their devotion in wars fought for the other light races and the bravest heroes would even be invited to join Niethalf's never-ending feast in the afterlife.

There was also a minor god within the pantheon, Bjarne. Supposedly he was the one who forged the souls of the deceased ones from Mor Duine to finish them up for another live. And because he had also forged the dwarven souls to be sturdy enough to overcome all hardships of life, they were extremely thankful to him too.

Blood Brotherhood[]

The dwarves of the Windwall Mountains had a unique tradition that first started after the War of the Six Races had ended. The firstborn sons of Windholme and the house of Hallit united their blood and thus became brothers by blood. Because of this tradition there was a sturdy alliance between the humans of the house of Hallit's and the seclusively living dwarves. The Hallites were even allowed to trade dwarven craftsmanship to humans of other tribes which led to a huge profit for the their merchants.

For centuries the dwarves and the humans of the Windwall Mountains have had an alliance with one another. After the War of the Six Nations, the blood brotherhood began. Since that time, the eldest sons of the rulers have mixed their blood to seal the bond. This has been tradition for generations.

During each generation the bond was reforged. There only had been once major indicent around eight years after the Convocation. Joshua Hallit, the heir of Lord Jonir Hallit, had recently joined his blood with Herger Skeldson, the son of Thane Skeld Sjalfson. However when the two of them met with a dragon during their journeys in the Coldmark, Joshua Hallit showed cowardice and ran off. Herger died that day and the thane was bursting with rage that he even severed the bond with the house of Hallit. Only thanks to the Phoenix Bearer who forced Joshua to overcome his fears and slaughtered Zyrafyr, the bond was anewed again.

Alliances[]

The dwarves are usually living extremely secluded. Only in rare occasions, they would form an alliance with another race.

Noteable settlements[]

Across the world of Eo, many settlements had been founded by the dwarves. Some of them will be listed below.

Windholme[]

The city of Windholme had been the capital of the Windwall Mountains and had been an important powerhouse in central Fiara. Because of the many moonsilver and adamantinum deposts found in the mountains and on the close-by Stoneblade Mountain, their wealth was to be considered breathtakingly high.

Fastholme[]

Located in the Grimwarg Mountains in northeastern Fiara the kingdom of Fastholme was the sibling city of Windholme. It was having a harder start because of the many brutal creatures that were roaming the area. Giants, trolls and wolflings were only a few of the enemies that the dwarves had to fight. However they were possessing an ancient gift, the Firebane, which allowed them to forge brilliant weapons because they did not have to fear being burned by their hot forges.

Dunholme[]

Said dwarven city was supposedly located within the Iron Heart in central Xu. The southern continent had been holding many rare resources and this abdundance led to the creation of another big empire within Xu. However the dwarves of Dunholme were extremely seclusional. They would not let any outsider enter their territory and since all contacts with other races had been severed for ages, no one even knows if they still exist.

Underhall[]

Within the Middle Mountains of Fiara south of the pits of Uram Gor, the dwarves had created another huge city: Underhall. Their soldiers were an essential part of the Realm units during the War of the Six Races and later the Shadow Wars. Their realm was also alot more open-minded as they would be in constant interaction with the other races. They would even interact with the Shaikan although many others were resenting them for being created by Janus Malacay's dark magic.

Noteable individuals[]

Within the dwarves' ranks there are often some who are extraordinary.

Units[]

Dwarves are recruitable as units in different SpellForce games.
