The Shadowblade was an artefact weapon first appearing at the Firefangs in SpellForce: The Breath of Winter. It was a weapon not from the world of Eo but from a strange realm of the Shadows and responsible for the rune warrior that later on became known as Shadow Warrior to turn into a Shadow himself.

Background[]

The blade has multiple appearances in different SpellForce games.

SpellForce: The Breath of Winter[]

The Shadowblade was guarded in the Firefangs by a servant of the Fial Darg, a Fireangel. Said being was responsible to safeguard the only weapon known to be able to kill his master. However when the Shadows that were imprisoned in the blade began to break out and started to roam the Firefangs, a rune warrior came through the portal from Shal'Dun.

The Fireangel mistook the rune warrior for another servant of his master and together they pushed back the Shadows, but when he tried to take the Shadowblade with him, the Fireangel saw through the rune warrior's true intentions but was unable to stop the rune warrior from leaving. The rune warrior became known as the Shadow Warrior ever since after he used the blade to slaughter the Fial Darg at the Abyss that had abducted Cenwen.

SpellForce: Shadow of the Phoenix[]

The rune warrior had paid a serious price for picking up the Shadowblade. His souls appeared to suffer heavy damage from the possession of the blade alone. The pains could be eased through the help of the Dryad but she foretold him, that no magic of this world would save him from turning into a shadow.

When the Masked One was revealed to be the mage Hokan Ashir the Shadow Warrior used the Shadowblade together with the Phoenix Bearer's Phoenix Stone to unleash the Phoenix in the Bone Temple of Zarach. The power of the primordial beast then obliterated the reborn circle and put an end to the rune wars.
