After the rune warrior had defeated and killed Grim, he talked to the leader of Shal'Dun. He would state that without having obtained the mysterious weapon mentioned by Grim, fighting the Fial Darg at the Abyss would be pointless. He gave the rune warrior the order to search for the weapon within the Firefangs.

Upon having passed through the portal to the Firefangs, a voice directly talked to the rune warrior's mind. The Fireangel, the guardian of the Shadowblade, was telling that Shadows were leaking from the blade and roaming the island. Only by forcing the Shadows back into the blade, the Fireangel would accept to talk to the rune warrior.

Obtaining the Shadow Ring[]

The rune warrior thus took control of the dark elf monument to create an army to support him. But before being able to fight the shadows, the Shadows first needed to be turned visible. The Shadow Ring was kept by Chosain the Hermit, however was split into two pieces by him because he feared the Shadows hunting him because of the ring. The hermit could be found in the west.

He then needed to be escorted to his camp to the east and the Shadows getting into his way, needed to be defeated. If Chosain would be killed, then the key of Chosain and his ring part could be taken from his corpse. With the key the other ring part could be obtained from the chest in his camp to the east. Once the ring had been obtained, all Shadows on the island turned hostile and the sealing of the Shadows could be started.

Sealing the Shadows[]

Shadowblade Altar

A shrine that is turned off...

In each corner of the island, there were four shrines with sealing fire but they went out. To seal all Shadows back into the Shadowblade, all shrines needed to be rekindled and kept burning. In order to do so, the rune warrior had to summon a Flame of Zarach from the shrine devoted to the god. Bringing a Flame of Zarach to a shrine made it sacrifice itself to rekindle the said shrine.

All four shrines needed to be set aflame and then all Shadows rushing to the spot needed to be defeated before reaching the shrine. The Shadows come from dark crystals surrounding the area of the shrine. Once all four shrines were aflame the attacks of the Shadows attacked much more fiercely and the rune armies needed to hold out a while until all Shadows were sealed. Eventually the attacks of the Shadows became less and the Fireangel claimed that the Shadows had been successfully sealed.

Confronting the Fireangel[]

Fireangel

The Fireangel refuses to give up the blade...

Talking to the Fireangel to the south would make him doubt the rune warrior, that he was a servant of the Fial Darg as well. He then found out, that the rune warrior was the enemy of the prince of darkness and roared in anger. He summoned fighters such as Masters of Fire and Firespitters and attacked the rune warrior and his army.

Once the Fireangel was defeated, the rune warrior was able to get the Shadowblade from the stone. With the sword in possession of the rune warrior, he headed back to Shal'Dun to talk to Craig Un'Shallach. This would then start the follow-up quest Into the Abyss.

Trivia[]

  • TheMoonGuardsBetrayalInShalDun

Archon Zhaal Tuor as he had claimed the Burning Rocks for himself alone.

If you supported the moon city during the fight for Shal'Dun, the leader of the moon city, Archon Zhaal Tuor, would be the person to talk to. He would betray the rune warrior and thus needed to be killed. Craig Un'Shallach was tortured and killed. The gate to the Abyss could then be opened with the key stone obtained from the Captain of the Moon Guard's corpse after the fight.
